I dropped him off at the Winding Stair Gap mile 109.8, just outside of Franklin, N.C. exactly where he left the trail 9 days ago.
It was 7:30 pm, so he hiked to the nearby Stream Campsite at mile 110.1.
While home, he traded packs to his Dana Designs Arc Flex TerraPlane.
It is an expedition pack, that belonged to the husband of my college professor. I had shared with her Red Bull's test hike, and she shared it with her husband. He was very impressed with Red Bull's planning and preparation for this endeavor. Her husband has had this top quality pack sitting in the closet for years. It has many fond memories associated with it, of his hikes with his brother in their home state of Washington. He has not had the heart to part with it, until he heard of Aaron.
Aaron was very thrilled to meet him, hear about and see photos of his exciting adventures with the pack, and receive advice regarding gear. Other gear was gifted, and Aaron went searching for recommended items for his journey.
Aaron chose to take his smaller and lighter pack initially due to his broken hand. He is now looking forward to being able to carry a few more items.
